One God in Three Persons — the Planner, the Rescuer, and the Helper
Welcome back to your daily work — the part of the study where real growth happens. Your group meeting planted the seed. This week, you water it. Each day takes about 15-20 minutes: a truth to focus on, Scripture to read, a moment to wonder at, and a prayer to pray. This week the days build on one another like a story unfolding, so try not to skip. By Day Seven you won't just understand the Trinity better — you'll have been drawn into the love and the rescue at the heart of it.
Each day this Treasury directs you to read a passage of Scripture. You'll notice we don't print the full passages here — and that's completely intentional. Every time you pick up your Bible to find the passage, you're building the most important habit of the Christian life: going to God's Word directly. You're also seeing the passage in its full context, the way God intended it to be read.

Every day when you see "Read:" followed by a reference — open your Bible or YouVersion, find the passage, and read it slowly before continuing. That moment of reaching for Scripture is not a hurdle. It's the point.

John 15:26Days 1-2: Work on the Primary verse, Matthew 28:19. Notice it says the name (singular) of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit — one name, three Persons. Read it out loud five times each morning.
Days 3-4: Add the Supporting verse, 2 Corinthians 13:14 — a blessing naming all three Persons. Recite both together.
Days 5-6: Going for the Bonus? Add John 15:26 and practice all three.
Day 7: Recite everything you've memorized — then celebrate. You just hid the truth of the Triune God in your heart.
Today's truth: Before we ever speak of three, we begin where the Bible begins — there is one God, and only one.
This was the prayer Israel spoke every morning and every evening — the words a faithful Jew built a whole life around: "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one." Read how God tells them to keep these words on their hearts, teach them to their children, talk about them at home and on the road, bind them to their hands, write them on their doorposts. Underline verses 4-5. Everything we will see this week about the Father, the Son, and the Spirit stands on this rock and never leaves it: there is one God, and He is to be loved with all that you are.
For more than three thousand years, faithful families have touched these very words on their doorposts coming in and going out. Of all the things God could have asked them to repeat every single day, He chose this one: the LORD is one. The oneness of God is the most repeated confession in human history. Whatever else we say this week, we say it standing here — on the bedrock that there is only one God.
"God, You alone are God. There is no other — no rival, no equal, nothing else that deserves the place You hold. So often I let smaller things climb onto the throne of my life. Today I want to love You with all my heart, all my soul, and all my strength — the one true God, and no other. Help me start here, and mean it. Amen."
Today's truth: From the very first pages of the Bible, the one God quietly hinted He was somehow more than a solitary one.
Read slowly, and watch for two quiet clues. In verse 2, "the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters" — God's Spirit, there at the very beginning. Then in verse 26, God says something surprising: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." Us. Our. — spoken by the God who is one. Underline both. These are not slips of the pen. They are the first faint hints of a truth God would unfold across the whole Bible.
For centuries these hints sat in the pages of Scripture like a door left slightly open — enough light spilling through the gap to know there was more in the room, not yet enough to see the whole of it. The "us." The hovering Spirit. The Word and the Angel of the LORD who are somehow God, and somehow distinct from Him. Then Jesus came, and the door swung wide. What the Old Testament whispered, the New Testament would say out loud. Today, you're standing at the door, watching it begin to open.
"God, You have been unfolding who You are since the very first verse of the Bible. You were never lonely, never incomplete — You have always been full of life and love. Thank You that knowing You is not a riddle to solve but a Person to discover. Open my eyes this week to see You more clearly than I ever have. Amen."
Today's truth: Jesus is not merely a great teacher or the first thing God made. He is God — the Word who became flesh.
Read it twice; it is one of the most breathtaking openings in all of Scripture. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (verse 1). With God — distinct from the Father. And was God — fully divine. Then the wonder of verse 14: "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." Underline both verses. The same God who spoke the universe into being — the One you marveled at last week — is the Word who stepped into His own creation as a man.
The hands that flung hundreds of billions of galaxies into space were, one silent night in Bethlehem, small enough to curl around a mother's finger. The Word who said "Let there be light" learned to walk, grew tired, and wept. This is not a god who stayed safely far away. This is God the Son, who loved you enough to become one of us — close enough to touch, close enough to die in your place. The infinite became an infant, for you.
"Lord Jesus, You are not just a good teacher or a great example — You are God, the Word made flesh. You made everything, and yet You came down into it for me. I'm in awe that the God of the galaxies would come this close. Help me love You and trust You today, not as a distant idea, but as the God who came near. Amen."
Today's truth: The Holy Spirit is not a force or a feeling. He is God — and a Person who can be known.
In John 14, Jesus promises "another Helper" to be with you forever — One who teaches you and reminds you of His words. Notice: a force doesn't teach, comfort, or dwell with you. A Person does. Then read Acts 5:3-4, where lying to the Holy Spirit is called lying "to God" — because the Spirit is God. Underline "another Helper" in John 14:16. The Spirit is not an "it," not an energy, not a vague power. He is "He."
Think about what this means. In the Old Testament, God's presence filled a temple made of stone, and only certain people on certain days could draw near. But the Spirit who is God now makes His temple in you — the moment you trust the Son, He comes to live inside you and never leaves. You don't travel to meet God at a holy building. The holy God has come to live in you.
"Holy Spirit, You are God, and You are not a stranger — You are a Helper, a Comforter, a Teacher. Thank You that You come to live inside everyone who belongs to Jesus, and that You never leave. Teach me Your Word. Remind me of Jesus. Make me more sensitive to Your gentle voice today, and quicker to follow it. Amen."
Today's truth: At Jesus' baptism, all three Persons appear at once — distinct, yet bound together in love.
Read it slowly and watch the whole Trinity step into a single scene. The Son comes up out of the water. The Spirit descends on Him like a dove. The Father speaks from heaven: "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." Three Persons, one moment, by one river. This is why the one God can never be just one Person changing costumes — here are all three at once, distinct and together. And don't miss the love: before Jesus had preached a sermon or worked a single miracle, the Father called Him "beloved."
That love the Father spoke over His Son did not begin at the river. Jesus once prayed, "Father... you loved me before the foundation of the world" (John 17:24). Before there were stars, before there was anything at all, the Father loved the Son, the Son loved the Father, and the Spirit was the very life of that love. Love is not something God learned. Love is who God has always been. And the most staggering part is this: that same eternal love is the love that reached down to find you.
God could have sent His Spirit as fire, or wind, or flame. He chose a dove — and that is no small detail. Remember Day Two, when the Spirit "hovered over the face of the waters" at the very first creation? That Hebrew word pictures a bird brooding over its nest — and ancient Jewish teachers themselves pictured the Spirit there as a dove. Now, at the Jordan, the Spirit comes down like a bird, over the water, again. The same Spirit who brooded over the waters when the old world began is resting over the water as a new creation begins — in Jesus. The dove is God's quiet sign: I am making the world new, and it starts here, with My Son.
And there is more — reach back to Noah. In his day the world had grown so violent and corrupt that God sent the flood in judgment, and the waters covered everything; a whole world was washed away. When at last the waters began to retreat, Noah released a dove, and it came back with a fresh olive leaf in its beak — the sign that the judgment was over, the flood had receded, and a new world could begin. At the Jordan, a dove descends over the water once more — resting now on the very One who would end God's judgment for good. And notice — He chose a dove, not a bird of prey. Real power, wrapped in gentleness. He came not to crush the broken, but to heal them.
"God, You are an eternal fellowship of love — Father, Son, and Spirit — and You were never lonely or in need. And yet You turned that love toward me. I can hardly take it in. Help me live today not as someone starving for love, but as someone already loved by the God who has been love forever. Amen."
Today's truth: The love within God became your rescue — planned by the Father, paid by the sinless Son, applied by the Spirit.
This is where the whole week has been heading. We owed a debt we could never pay — the record of our sin, with our own name on it. Read Colossians 2:13-14: God "canceled the record of debt that stood against us... nailing it to the cross." Then read Romans 5: "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." We didn't clean ourselves up first. The Father planned the rescue, the sinless Son — the only One both free and able to pay — paid the debt in full, and the Spirit seals it in everyone who believes. One God, three Persons, one saving love.
When Jesus cried out from the cross, "It is finished" (John 19:30), the word He used — tetelestai — was the very word a merchant wrote across a bill that had been settled: paid in full. Your sin debt — the one thing you could never pay, no matter how long you tried — was marked PAID and nailed to His cross. There is nothing left for you to settle. The only thing left to do with a debt that's already been paid is to stop trying to pay it, and simply say thank You.
"God, I could never have paid what I owed You — not in a thousand lifetimes. But Jesus did. The sinless Son took my sin debt and stamped it 'paid in full.' Thank You. I stop trying to earn what You've already given. I receive it. And if I have never truly trusted You before, I do it now — I turn from my old way and put my whole trust in what Jesus did for me. Amen."
Today's goal: Gather up the week, declare the truth out loud, and get ready to share it.
Say every verse you've memorized this week out loud, from memory. (Matthew 28:19 — and 2 Corinthians 13:14 and John 15:26 if you took the challenge.)
"There is one God, and beside Him there is no other.
The Father is God. The Son is God. The Spirit is God — and they are not three gods, but one.
They are three Persons, who have loved one another before the world began.
The Father planned my rescue before the world began.
The sinless Son paid my sin debt in full at the cross.
The Spirit lives in me as God's own guarantee.
This is no riddle to be solved. This is the living God to be loved.
One God, three Persons — and He has loved me into His family."
"How can God be three and one at the same time?
Isn't that a contradiction?"
Practice your answer out loud right now, in your own words, like you're talking to a curious friend. Remember the key: it would only be a contradiction if we said God is one and three in the same way — and we don't. He is one in being — one God, one "what." He is three in Persons — three "whos." One What; three Whos. That isn't 1 + 1 + 1 = 1; it's simply a category we've never met anywhere else, because there is nothing else anywhere quite like God.
And remember the rule: gentleness and respect. The goal isn't to win the argument — it's to point your friend past the puzzle to the God who is big enough, and good enough, to be trusted.
Which truth this week did you need most — and why? Where did God meet you: in seeing how near the Son came, in knowing the Spirit lives in you, or in hearing that your debt is paid in full?
"Father, thank You for this week — for showing me who You really are. Thank You that You are one God in three Persons, and that this isn't a cold puzzle but the warmest love there is. Thank You, Father, for planning my rescue; thank You, Jesus, for paying it in full; thank You, Holy Spirit, for living in me. Press these truths deep into my heart, and let me never get over them. I'm ready for Week 4. Amen."
